Myers Makes it Two in a Row
By Ken de la Bastide
(May
7, 2012) – Josh “Country” Myers is making a statement in EDCO
Welding Street Stock competition by scoring back to back wins at Anderson
Speedway.
Myers didn’t take the lead until just past the halfway point of the feature
and then kept Ricky Tharp at bay to win by three-tenths of a second.
Jimmy Kirby took the lead chased by Tharp, Frankie Oakes, Tyler Marsh and
Myers. With Kirby and Tharp pulling away from the remainder of the pack,
Myers made identical front straight passes of Marsh and Oakes to move up to
third after seven laps.
With the three front runners running in a tight pack, Kirby got loose coming
off the second corner and spun on the back straight on lap 16. That put
Tharp and Myers on the front row for the restart.
Myers got the jump on the restart with Tharp in hot pursuit. The caution
flag waved on lap 22 when Billy VanMeter spun on the back straight while
running fifth.
On the restart Tharp had the lead at the stripe, but one lap later Myers was
back on the point and led to the finish. Following Myers and Tharp were
Marsh, Kirby and Oakes.
Kirby won the heat race taking the lead from Danny Adams on lap six with an
outside power move in turn three.
Adams took the lead at the start with things getting interesting on the
second lap when Oakes, Kirby and Tharp all passing VanMeter using the high
groove down the back straight.
Kirby and Tharp both were able to pass Oakes in lap four and five to move
into the second and third spots. From there Kirby got around Adams to claim
the point and on lap seven Tharp used the high line on the front straight to
grab second.
Third went to Oakes followed by Marsh and Adams.
