CRA and Anderson Speedway Announce Hoosier SPEC Tires for Late Model
Sportsman and Street Stocks
CRA Will Also Implement Additional Plans
to
Reduce the Importance of New Tires
(February 21, 2012) –
Officials from Champion Racing Association (CRA) and Anderson
Speedway announced today the spec tires for Late Model Sportsman and Street
Stock divisions in 2012. Once again, Motion Motors will serve as the dealer
for the track and most of the stops on the CRA series schedule.
The Street Stocks will return to the Hoosier Comanche they have raced on in
years past. “We tried finding one tire to fit the needs of the Late Model
Sportsman and Street Stocks last year, but in the end the Comanche seemed to
be the best fit for the Street Stocks,” noted Anderson Speedway owner Rick
Dawson. The Comanche will be plated “CRA” and will be sold by Motion Motors.
For the Late Models Sportsman teams, the Hoosier 970 (plated “CRA”) will be
used in 2012. Recognized as one of Hoosier’s most successful tires, the 970
is used by many weekly Outlaw Late Models as well as Open Wheel Modifieds
around the country. “This was the tire most requested by teams,” CRA partner
R. J. Scott commented, “and we are excited to have the Late Model Sportsman
on a tire that is favored by so many people.” The 970 is actually a slightly
wider tire as well as having a more consistent compound.
In addition to announcing the tires for the Late Model Sportsman and Street
Stocks, CRA also announced two procedural changes to lessen the importance
of new tires. The first change will be that these divisions will not receive
qualifying points in 2012. The second change will be that teams will not be
allowed to qualify on “sticker” tires. Tires used in qualifying must have
been in a minimum of one practice session prior to qualifying. According CRA
Partner Glenn Luckett, “No matter what tire you use, there is nothing like
the first 5 laps of a new tire, so eliminating the benefit of a sticker tire
and reducing the importance of qualifying by eliminating points earned in
qualifying should aid in the reduction of tire costs for the teams in 2012.”
These procedural changes do not apply to weekly division racing at Anderson
Speedway.
Hoosier will begin production of the CRA plated tires soon, with the racers
being able to purchase them from Motion Motors by mid to late March. Tire
orders can be placed with Motion Motors at 765-533-4849.
