Something for Everyone; 2012 Schedule Action Packed
BY KEN de la BASTIDE
(February
14, 2012) –
With the 2012 racing season less than two months away, the Anderson
Speedway schedule offers something for everyone.
Every fan of racing has a favorite event or division they enjoy watching and
following and in most cases there is more than one division that captures
their attention.
For myself I always look forward to the Pay Less Little 500 week with two
days of qualifying leading up to the 64th running of the classic race.
Action kicks off on Wednesday, May 23 with the Must See Racing 60 for the
winged sprints.
Sprint car action kicks off on April 29 with the 100-lap Glen Niebel Classic
sanctioned by the United States Speed Association.
The second weekend I’m looking forward to is on July 20 and July 21 when the
JEGS/CRA All Star Tour will compete in a 100-lap feature on Friday followed
by the CRA Super Series competing in the Red Bud 300, which is one of the
top super late model races in the Midwest.
As has become tradition the CRA Super Series opens the 2012 season at the
speedway on April 14.
Figure-8 fans will experience the excitement of the International Outlaw
Figure-8 Series several times during the 2012 season including the 63rd
annual Best Way Disposal National Crown on July 14.
The CRA Sportsman and EDCO Welding Street Stocks will make several
appearances at Anderson Speedway again as they did in 2011. For the EDCO
Welding Street Stocks the signature event will be the Ivy Tech 200 on June
30.
“Willie’s Race” will be the highlight for the Anderson Speedway Late Model
teams on September 22 in memory of William Medford, who died last year.
The second annual Outlaw 100 will take place on August 4 in a “run what you
bring” competition that has the potential to be one of the top races on the
schedule.
There are three Night of Thrills slated for 2012 and four of the popular
Culver’s Trailer Races.
The WMDH ThunderCar teams will compete in two Enduro races on March 31 and
October 6, the Legends will run the Grant Fritz/Greg Dietzen Memorial on
August 25 and the Front Wheel Drive Challenge will be run on October 20 for
100 laps on the oval.
On a regular basis fans will see the Anderson Speedway McGunegill Engine
Performance Late Models, EDCO Welding Street Stocks, WMDH ThundersCars,
Front Wheel Drive divisions in action on the oval and Figure-8.
The Top Speed Modifieds compete on June 23 and the Legends and Mini-cups
make several appearances.
