Myers Gets Feature Win; Poore Claims Championship
(October
10, 2011) –
All Josh Poore had to do to capture his second Anderson Speedway
track championship was to finish the feature event on Ed Martin Toyota
Championship night.
Poore accomplished that feat with a second place finish to add the 2011 EDCO
Welding Street Stock title to the WMDH Thunder Car crown he captured in
2004.
Josh Myers set fast time during qualifying on Sept. 24 and led the entire
distance to record, surprisingly to score his only feature win of the
season.
In the early stages of the feature event Myers was chased by Poore, Jimmy
Kirby, Ronnie Rose and JP Crabtree.
The driver on the move was Muncie’s Tyler Marsh, who slipped underneath
Crabtree entering turn three on the eleventh circuit. The only caution flag
waved on lap 15 when Crabtree spun in turn two, ending his night.
On the restart Myers, Poore, Kirby, Rose and Marsh ran nose to tail, but
that all changed on the 39th circuit. Marsh came off the second corner and
used the high line down the back straight to blow by both Rose and Kirby.
At the checkers Myers won by .2 seconds over Poore with Marsh other
.1-seconds back followed by Kirby and Rose.
Poore, who earlier in the year put together a string of eight consecutive
wins in Anderson Speedway and Champion Racing Association, celebrated the
championship in victory lane.
“This one was a lot harder,” he said of the title run.
