Tharp Continues Hot Streak
(September19, 2011) – Since returning to the Figure-8 Division,
Josh Tharp has been on the kind of hot streak drivers can usually only dream
about.
Tharp continued that torrid pace on Saturday at Anderson Speedway setting
fast time during Herald Bulletin qualifications, than went out and won the
heat and feature events. For Tharp it was the fifth feature win in the past
seven events.
Tharp led the entire 25 laps distance to record the feature win by more than
5-seconds over Nick Warner with Shawn Cullen coming home in third followed
by Curtis Chapman and Ranny Hinton.
With Tharp in the lead, Cullen was running second in the early stages of the
feature race. Cullen was passed by Warner on lap 11 with an inside move on
the front straight. From that point Cullen and Chapman waged a spirited
battle for the third position with Cullen prevailing.
It appeared that Jeff Swinford was going to record the win in the heat race
until the lead pack entered turn three on the final lap. Second-place
running Chapman tapped the rear bumper of Swinford’s machine, causing the
leader to spin. That allowed Tharp to scoot past for the victory.
At the checkers it was Tharp, recording his fifth heat win of the season,
followed by Chapman, Cullen, Warner and James Peterson.
In Herald Bulletin qualifications, Tharp posted a time of 19.781-seconds
followed closely by Warner with a lap of 19.832 and Ronnie Rose with a time
of 19.937.
