Magee Wins ThunderCar Feature; McConnell, Evans Capture Heats
(September
12, 2011) – Making a rare appearance for a regular WMDH Thunder Car
event, Johnny Magee was in the thick of the action during Cooper Sport Bowl
Family Night at Anderson Speedway.
Magee, renowned for his prowess during Thunder Car Enduro Races, posted the
fifth fastest time during Herald Bulletin qualifications and then led wire
to wire to capture his first feature win of the 2011 season.
For the entire distance Magee was chased by David McConnell, Lonny Burton,
Hannah Lundy and Rob Allman.
Allman looked high and low to get around Lundy and finally made the pass
late in the race, which ran without the yellow flag being displayed.
Magee won by .85-seconds over McConnell with Burton coming home third
followed by Allman and Lundy. The top five finishers were all within
1.5-seconds of each other.
In the first heat race, McConnell and Magee ran side by side for several
laps before McConnell took the point. Just as in the feature race Allman,
Burton and Lundy were in close contact with the leaders. The top five
finished within a second of each other.
Kyle Evans led from start to finish to win the second heat race with Frankie
Oakes working his way through the field to finish second followed by Jeff
Williams, Ryan Claborn and Jeremy Threet.
Coming to the checkers Threet and Rob Noel got together with Noel making
heavy contact with the pit exit. Although his car suffered extensive damage,
Noel was uninjured.
