Sprints Return Saturday
(June
15, 2011) –
Racing action returns to Anderson Speedway this weekend with a double header
racing lineup planned on Friday, June 17 with the conclusion of the Spring
Championships and then Saturday, June 18 for the Ivy Tech Night at the
Races.
On Friday Night, the conclusion of the Spring Championships will take place.
Divisions that will be showcased in feature events include EDCO Welding
Street Stocks, Figure 8’s along with Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8
action.
Josh Poore continues to pace the EDCO Welding Street Stock division after
earning his most recent victory on June 11. Other challengers this season
include Josh Myers, Jacob McElfresh along with rookie J.P. Crabtree and
veteran campaigner Randy Hoppes.
In the early stages of the Figure 8 division season, former champion Curtis
Chapman and multi-time track titlist Nick Warner are locked in a close
battle for the points championship. Other top five competitors include Josh
Tharp, Bruce McFall and James Peterson.
Capturing early season victories propelled Jeff Williams into the Front
Wheel Drive Oval points lead. Ron Phipps is ranked in second spot with
Marshall Clark listed in third. Jamie Williams and Trevin Henson round out
the top five.
In the Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 standings, Chris Teepe continues to be on
championship pace with Elliott McKinney ranked in second position. The
remainder of the top five includes Mike Alley, Kevin Henson and Trevin
Henson.
On Friday, June 17, spectator gates open at 6 p.m. with the feature
racing events starting at 8. A special admission price of $7 for adults with
kids ages 6-12 admitted for $4. Children five and under get in free.
During the Ivy Tech Night at the Races, six divisions will be in action on
Saturday, June 18, headlined by the Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series. Other
classes in action include Late Models, WMDH ThunderCars, Legends, Bandoleros
and Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s.
The most recent H.O.S.S. Winged Sprint event at Anderson Speedway took place
last October with Daleville’s Aaron Pierce scoring a thrilling victory with
a last lap pass on former series champion Tim Cox. In 2011, both Pierce and
Cox have scored H.O.S.S. feature victories in the opening two events. In the
point standings, Cox leads Pierce by four points with Joe Swanson ranked
third.
The Late Models will be featured in a 30-lap feature event. Terry Cater
leads the point standings after recording the feature victory in the opening
race of the season. Several drivers will contend with Cater in the return of
the Late Model division to Anderson Speedway in 2011.
In the WMDH ThunderCars, Ronnie Rose visited the winner’s circle last
weekend. Lonny Burton shows the way in the season points with other season
strong performances being turned in by Hannah Lundy and Rob Allman.
The Legends return for the first occasion since their most recent event on
May 14 when Ohio standout Bryan Nuckles drove into the winner’s circle after
finishing ahead of John Robbins and Eric Black.
The Bandoleros will compete in a 15-lap feature and the Front Wheel Drive
Figure 8’s will make their second appearance in as many nights with a 15-lap
feature on tap.
On Saturday, June 18, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing program
starting at 8. Adult admission is $12 with kids ages 6-12 admitted for $4.
Children five and under get in free.
