Rose Records WMDH ThunderCar Win; Burton, Peters Get Heat Victories
(June
13, 2011) –
With less than a second separating the top nine qualifiers in the WMDH
Thunder Car Division, Ronnie Rose made the right move near the mid-point of
the feature to get the win.
Lonny Burton took the early lead with Rose nudging him entering the corners,
just to let Burton know he was right there. Several times Rose attempted to
use a sling shot move off the second and fourth corners to get outside of
Burton, but with no luck.
Finally on the eighth circuit Rose was able to get along side of Burton
coming off the fourth corner and made the pass on the front straight.
When the leaders encountered slower traffic, Rose made a gutsy move between
two cars on the front straight and extended his lead over Burton, winning by
2.3 seconds.
Rob Allman finished third followed by Hannah Lundy and Jeff Williams.
In the first of two heat races, Burton and Rose also battled for the front
spot with the win going to Burton by half a car length at the checkers.
Allman finished third followed by Lundy and Williams.
It was Burton’s third heat win of 2011 in the division.
Mike Peters led the entire distance to win the second heat race with first
time Anderson Speedway competitor Shantell Banks turning in a strong
performance. Banks used the high groove on the sixth lap to pass Sammy
Hawkins and then closed on Peters, coming up just .185-seconds short of the
win.
Earl Adams II finished third followed by Sammy and Jimmy Hawkins.
