McKinney Holds off Ellis in FWD Action; Teepe, Frawley get heat wins

(June 13, 2011) – When leader Mike Alley slowed as a result of a flat tire, Elliot McKinney vaulted into the lead, but he was challenged for the remaining distance by Donnie Ellis Jr. and Chris Teepe.

It was the second race of the season for the IOFS Compact Figure-8 division and the first at Anderson Speedway in 2011.

The top three were bunched up twice in the final six laps by caution flags, with McKinney getting a good jump on the restarts with Ellis and Teepe battling for the second spot behind him.

At the finish it was McKinney winning by .329 seconds over Ellis with Teepe, who had not lost at Anderson Speedway in the Front Wheel Drive Figure-8 Division, coming home in third. Bruce McFall and Blake Zirkle rounded out the top five.

“Donnie always races me clear,” McKinney said of the final restarts.

Teepe won the first of the two heat races taking the lead from Alley on the third lap with an inside move coming off the second corner.

Bruce McFall made a similar move a lap later going down the back straight to claim the second position.

McKinney finished third followed by John Davis Jr. and Alley.

Only three cars were still running in the second heat race with some wild action taking place between two of the front running cars.

Harry Lashure took the early lead and with Ellis and Zachary Kendall battling for the second position on the second lap, both spun in turn one.

On the fourth lap Ellis got underneath Trevon Henson on the front straight and entering turn one, Henson dumped Ellis. Ellis went to the pits with a flat right rear tire and Henson was black flagged for rough driving.

Lashure remained out front until a flat right front tire allowed James Frawley to take the lead on the next to last lap to record the victory. Lashure held on for second with Kendall coming home in third.
