63rd Annual Pay Less Little 500 Pole Day to Feature Huge Field on
Thursday
(May
25, 2011) – The 63rd Annual Pay Less Little 500 starting field will
begin to take shape during Pole Day set for Thursday, May 26 at Anderson
Speedway.
The top 15 qualifiers will be locked into Saturday night’s 33-car starting
field after the completion of round one qualifying.
Currently, 42 cars are entered for this year’s Pay Less Little 500 and
expected to participate in the opening round qualifying session.
On Thursday, practice is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. and finishing up
at 1:15 p.m. First round qualifying for the Pay Less Little 500 will take
place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Illinois competitor Levi Jones earned the pole position at last year’s Pay
Less Little 500 with Shane Hollingsworth and former race winner Chet Fillip
completing the front row starters.
Seven drivers have won pole positions in the previous nine years with Jones
(2010), Tony Elliott (2009), Doug Heveron (2008), Donnie Adams Jr. (2007),
Aaron Pierce (2006) Tom Fedewa (2005) and then Dave Steele grabbing three
poles from 2002 to 2004.
In the all-time records, Steele and Frank Riddle sit atop the career pole
positions. Both drivers scored five poles with Tom Cherry grabbing four. The
top five in career poles include Jim Childers and Heverron collecting three
apiece.
The last driver to win the pole position and the Pay Less Little 500 race
victory was Dave Steele in 1996.
Admission is free to watch the 63rd Annual Pay Less Little 500 first round
qualifications on Thursday and Bump Day on Friday.
On Saturday, the 63rd Pay Less Little 500 goes green approximately at 8 p.m.
