Derrick Griffin and Tyler Roahrig Ready for Anderson This Weekend

(May 4, 2011) – The Welch & Wilson Motorsports team in the CRA Super Series expanded from the conclusion of last year’s Winchester 400 and the new look two car operation now features two Northern Indiana young guns of Derrick Griffin and Tyler Roahrig.

Part of the change with the team included accomplished Late Model wheelman and former CRA Super Series top competitor Scott Neal serving as team manager on the two-car effort. In preparation for the season opening Seal Wrap 125 presented by Great Deals Savings Magazine, Welch & Wilson Motorsports tested at Anderson Speedway on April 2.

“Scott (Neal) will be a huge asset to our program. I’m really excited about working with him at Anderson. I’m not shy to try anything and he has a lot great suggestions,” said Derrick Griffin.

Griffin, of South Bend, Ind., has made three starts in the No. 4 Welch & Wilson Motorsports Chevrolet. He debuted at the 43rd Annual Snowball Derby last December finishing an impressive sixth.

Last year Griffin earned two Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman victories at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis and Toledo Speedway. He also won the Stan Perry Memorial Outlaw Super Late Model event at Angola Motor Speedway.

Griffin made his initial start at Anderson last year in the CRA Sportsman Series earning fast time honors and then placing fourth in the 75-lap feature event.

“Anderson always has tons of action on it. The race will be really exciting. I’m really looking forward to driving a Super Late Model there,” added Griffin.

Tyler Roahrig captured the 2009 CRA Rookie of the Year Honors. He turned in a successful debut to Anderson in April of his rookie season starting on the outside of the front row and crossing the finish line in 12th position.

“Anderson is not one of my best tracks, but I have always run good there. It can be tough to pass with the high level of competition in the series. It’s important to have a good handling car for the entire race with so many good cars in the series,” said Tyler Roahrig.

Roahrig earned a pair of ninth place finishes in the Redbud 300 in 2009 and the Spring event last year marking his best performance at the high-banked quarter-mile oval.

“I have high hopes for a strong run at Anderson. Scott (Neal) has more laps around that place than anybody in the field so whatever he tells us to do on the car Ill agree with. I will offer some input, but he is the man charge this year.”

Roahrig posted two-top five finishes last year in the CRA Super Series and finished 12th position in the point standings after competing in a partial schedule for the family team. To the start the season, he turned in great finish with crossing the finish line in sixth spot in the CRA Southern Six-Pack Tour Event in the 35th Annual Rattler at South Alabama Speedway.

Don’t miss the CRA Super Series Late Models when they invade Anderson Speedway on Saturday, May 7 in the Seal Wrap 125 presented by Great Deals Savings Magazine.
