Y-Town Hustler Highly Anticipating CRA Opener
(April
12, 2011) –
Yorktown’s Rick Turner has competed in nearly all the
CRA Super Series Late Model events contested at Anderson Speedway and will
be among the contenders during the Seal Wrap 125 presented by Great Deals
Savings Magazine on Saturday, April 16.
“It’s tradition to open up the season at Anderson,” said Rick Turner. “I
take a lot of pride with running good there as I consider Anderson and
Winchester my home tracks. We made some changes to the front end of the car
during the off-season and will see if that gives us a better handling car
when we unload for the open practice on April 15. “
Although Turner officially placed seventh in the final series point
standings after producing three top-five finishes and five top 10s, the
52-year-old competitor was disappointed with his 2010 CRA campaign.
“We debuted a brand new car last year and I just never felt comfortable. Our
best race was in the Winchester 400 so that gives me high hopes for the
upcoming season.”
Turner recorded solid finishes at Anderson last year with crossing the
finish line in third spot in the April affair and eighth in the Welch &
Wilson Motorsports Redbud 300.
“Anderson is one of those places where experience is very important. I have
so many laps around that place and last year finished a little higher than I
should have. We had a good car last year, just wasn’t a winning piece.”
Earning his first CRA victory at Anderson in August of 2005, Turner held off
eventual series champion Jeff Lane at the checkered flag. He returned to the
Winner’s circle in June of 2008 besting Jason Shively.
“Winning any CRA event is an incredible feeling but winning at Anderson is
unbelievable. Seeing the crew members running up to the car on the
frontstretch with huge smiles is a great feeling. It’s always great to win
in front of your fans.”
Current season plans for Turner depend on early season results as he may run
a partial schedule. He will compete in all the CRA events at Anderson along
with Winchester and Lucas Oil Raceway Park in Indianapolis among other
series stops.
“We will race Anderson and Winchester to start the season and then revaluate
our season plans. I still enjoy racing and work out three days a week to
stay in good physical condition for these events. Right now work is really
busy so it’s pretty difficult to test and CRA gets tougher and tougher every
year.”
Turner will wheel his familiar No. 26 with sponsorship from Great Deals
Savings Magazine, McGunegill Engine Performance and Rick’s Service Center.
Don’t miss the CRA Super Series Late Models when they invade Anderson
Speedway on Saturday, April 16 in the Seal Wrap 125 presented by Great Deals
Savings Magazine.
