Anderson Speedway Announces Late Model Racing Return in 2011
CRA Late Model Sportsman an Integral Part of the Highly Anticipated Plan
(Nov
1, 2010) – Officials from Anderson Speedway announced
today that the fan-popular Late Models will return in 2011, with a bigger
presence than in past years. In 2011, the Late Models will be featured in their
own championship series at Anderson Speedway. The Speedway plans to have the
division featured 8 to 12 times during the year. It is planned that at least
four of these events will be scheduled as part of the CRA Late Model Sportsman
2011 schedule as well.
“We’ve had the CRA Late
Model Sportsman as special events the last couple of years,” noted Anderson
Speedway owner Rick Dawson, “and they have been great shows that fans have
really enjoyed. This division has really grown and become popular among racers
and fans, and it’s time to get Late Models back to Anderson Speedway on a more
regular basis. The fans recognize them as similar to the Super Late Models of
the CRA Super Series that are featured in the Redbud 300 and I wouldn’t be
surprised if a few of the Anderson teams didn’t convert over to a Super Late
Models for that event and run with the CRA Super Series Super Late Models.”
The Anderson Speedway series
will utilize the same rules as the CRA Late Model Sportsman. This will allow
cars from all over the Midwest to come and race at Anderson Speedway on any
given night, and allow the CRA regulars to get tuned-up prior to their point
races. The Anderson Speedway Series events will be 30 to 40 laps in length and
pay a minimum of $600-to-win and $100-to-start. The amount of dates that
Anderson will be running will also allow their teams to travel on off weekends,
if they choose, to places like Winchester, Plymouth, and ORP, which are expected
to be part of the CRA Late Model Sportsman schedule again in 2011.
“This is a great move for
the racers and fans,” commented CRA co-owner Glenn Luckett. “Some of our best
racing comes out of this division and the Anderson fans are going to benefit
from this more in 2011. We are currently working on the schedule so that the
Anderson regulars can focus on their own schedule, but give the racers the
opportunity to travel to other tracks if they like. It should be a ‘Win-Win’ for
everyone involved.”
A complete schedule will be
announced at a later date, and full details can be found in the future by
