Miles Gets Street Stock Win; Poore, Hoppes Score Heat Victories
Muncie driver Brett Miles used a bold move on the fourth lap to get inside of race leader Josh Burton entering turn three and never looked back to record the victory in the Street Stock feature at Anderson Speedway.

The early lead was taken by Josh Burton, who raced side-by-side with Josh Poore for several laps. The trading of paint left Poore with a flat left rear tire and a trip to the pits left him two laps behind the leader.

With Poore out of contention that moved Miles up to second chased by Rich Boyer, Rob Allman and fast qualifier Josh Myers.

On the fourth circuit, Miles got inside of Burton in turn one but was forced to back out of the throttle. Coming off the second corner Miles got a run down the back straight and squeezed underneath Burton to take the lead.

Boyer moved into the second spot on lap 11 with an outside pass of Burton going down the back straight.

Allman, running fourth at the time, was black-flagged on lap 12. Burton slowed on lap 15 surrendering the third position.

There were interesting developments over the final 10 laps behind Miles and Boyer. On lap 23, Derrick Layne went to the inside entering turn one and passed both Myers and Rod Phipps coming off the second corner.

Three laps later Phipps used the high line to pass both Layne and Myers to move into third. Two laps later both Layne and Myers drove into the infield crossover.

At the finish it was Miles winning by two seconds over Boyer with Phipps, Tyler Marsh and Todd Marsh rounding out the top five.

“I got inside him (Burton) in turn two,” Miles said of the winning pass. “I thought he saw me, but I had to back out. I got inside entering turn three. I didn’t mean to hit him, but that’s short track racing.”

Poore led the entire distance to record the victory in the first heat race with Josh Burton running second. On the third lap, Boyer and Allman got inside of Burton, who did some nifty dirt track racing to avoid the front straight wall and eventually spun in turn two with a flat left rear tire.

Allman was black-flagged on lap five when his Chevrolet began spewing blue smoke.

At the finish it was Poore winning by 2.6-seconds over Boyer with Miles finishing third, the only drivers on the lead lap.

Randy Hoppes took the lead from Tyler Marsh on the second lap of the second feature with an inside pass entering turn three. At the start/finish line Layne was able to nip Marsh for second on the final lap by less than a tenth of a second.
