Rich Boyer Collects CRA Street Stock Victory; Pitts and Teepe Also
Victorious
For the second week in a row Rich Boyer held off all challengers to capture
the Champion Racing Association Street Stock feature at Anderson Speedway on
Saturday.
Boyer inherited the lead on lap three when bad luck again struck Ronnie Rose
when a mechanical problem sent Rose to the pits on the first of seven caution
periods.
Rich Segvich led the first lap from the pole position following an invert of the
top 12 qualifiers. Rose took the lead with an outside pass coming off the fourth
corner and one lap later Rose’s car started spewing blue smoke.
That gave Boyer the lead and he remained on the point for the next 72 laps, he
was first chased by Segvich and Jason Thompson. Segvich’s car broke on lap 36
while he was still running second.
Scott Neal, who set a new CRA track record during qualifying, ran in the top ten
and near the halfway point started a charge to the front. Neal got inside Josh
Myers on lap 31 to take fifth.
Neal then got inside Brian Hopkins for the third spot on lap 34 but then slipped
on lap 40 which gave Hopkins back the position.
Then on lap 50 Neal got into the back of Hopkins car on the back straight.
Hopkins got loose and was passed by Neal, Josh Poore and Jeff Lane.
Lane passed Neal for the third spot on lap 65.
At the finish Boyer won by .355 seconds over Thompson followed by Lane, Neal and
Poore.
Nick Moore had an impressive run starting 20th in the 30 car field and driving
to a tenth place finish.
Chris Teepe saw a big lead evaporate following a caution flag on lap eight and
then held off fast qualifier Gary Bragg Jr. to claim his second Front Wheel
Drive oval feature win of the season.
Bragg senior and junior made an inside pass of Jared Keller on the third lap to
grab the second and third.
On the restart Bragg Jr., was able to get inside his father to claim second and
closed on Teepe, but with three laps remaining tried to slingshot into the lead
entering turn one and lost all the momentum when his car got loose.
Teepe won by .38 second followed by Bragg Jr., Bragg Sr., Frank Gasho and Don
Ellis II. Kokomo based Mad Cow racing claimed the second, third, fourth and
sixth positions with Jerry Dane just missing a top five finish.
The Champion Racing Association Sportsman Division makes its first appearance at
Anderson Speedway for a 75-lap feature event. Also on the racing card are the
WMDH ThunderCars, Front Wheel Drive Figure-8, Legends and Bandoleros. Gates open
at 5 p.m. with racing at 8 p.m.
