Acrey, Poore, Magee and Saxon Claim Victories
Danny Acrey ll, Josh Poore, Johnny Magee and Jeff Saxon were the big winners at
Anderson Speedway in the WLBC Saturday Night Summer Series on Saturday, June 6.
Three of the four drivers captured their first feature win of the season.
Danny Acrey II and Kyle Flynn raced for the lead in the early going of the 30
lap headliner with Flynn going high in the corner and Acrey making the race
winning move on lap four. From there Acrey opened up a comfortable lead to coast
to his first win of the year over Carl Muffley, Bret Miles Sr., Rich Boyer and
Josh Burton. Randy Hoppes and Acrey were heat winners with Miles the fast timer
at 14.203 seconds.
A large field of ThunderCars provided a great battle for all of the events on
this night! The feature ended up being a tremendous race between Rob Allman, Rod
Phipps and Josh Poore. Phipps and Poore started from the front row after the
inversion with Allman working his way into the picture quickly. Phipps did
everything possible in racing to pass Poore other than spin him and just
couldn't get the job done. Poore took his first win of the year defeating
Phipps, Allman, Dustin Burge and Nick Warner in that order. Terry Malone Jr. and
Allman were prelim winners with Allman fast qualifier at 14.851 seconds.
With a ton of competitors to race against, point leader Jeff Saxon took
advantage of the inversion and a front row starting position to lead the
distance in the front wheel drive oval main event. Gary Bragg Jr. never left
Saxon's bumper and was making contact at the white flag but it would not deter
Saxon from capturing his fourth feature win of the season. Trailers at the
checkers were Bragg Jr., Kevin Harmon, Jack Leisure and Nick Warner. Bragg Jr.
and Harmon were heat winners with Gary Bragg, Sr fast timer at 15.877 seconds.
Often the Immediadent Figure 8 caps off the program with a bang. It lived up to
its reputation! Rickie Tharp led the first circuit before going high and handing
the lead to eventual winner Johnny Magee. On Lap 11 Mike Riddle Jr. and Josh
Tharp were racing side by side for 3rd. Riddle ended up slamming the protective
water barrel in turn #4. He drove away from the corner, retaliated on the car
that he thought was responsible, and was sent to the pit for unsportsmanlike
conduct. The yellow flew again on lap 16 for an exhaust pipe on the track. The
race saw a lot of crossover action with Magee taking his first win of the year
defeating Rickie Tharp, Shawn Cullen, Josh Poore and Josh Tharp in that order.
Ranny Hinton and Josh Tharp were prelim winners with Magee fast qualifier at
20.015 seconds.
