Anderson Speedway Crowns 2008 Champions at Banquet

Owners and drivers from eight different divisions walked home with their championship trophies as Anderson Speedway hosted their annual awards banquet Saturday night at the Officers’ Club at the Military Museum in Anderson on Saturday night. Joe Beaver won the 15th championship of his long career as the Ed Martin Chevrolet SuperTruck Champion, Anderson Speedway’s premiere division.

Jeff Perry who drove the JMRB Motorsports Chevrolet took home top honors in the Street Stock Division, Ranny Hinton and Rob Allman, both of Anderson, shared the Immediadent Figure 8 championships as owner and driver, respectively, and Randy Hoppes took the top prize in the Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Pro division to round out the divisions for Saturday night racing.

Val Abrahm, representing Backyard Broadcasting, handed out the awards for the WLBC/MAX Friday Night Summer Series. John Robbins was crowned champion of the Newco Metals Legends for the second year in a row. Lonnie Burton was praised for his deliberance in his pursuit of his championship after finishing second in a close 2007 points battle. Kevin Harmon was presented the championship trophy for the Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Amatuer Division and Andy Keller won the Quick Auto Figure 8 points battle.

Awards were also presented to the top place owners and drivers in each division as well as the Bob Remington Memorial Dedication and Rocky Tharp Memorial awards. Travis Burge was the Rookie of the Year in the ThunderCar division.
