Fun and Excitement at 11th Annual Anderson Rent All
Stock Car Festival
The 11th Annual Anderson Rent All
Stock Car Festival was held at Anderson Speedway on October 4th and 5th with
well over 120 cars participating.
In the Ed Martin Supertrucks Josh Poore dominated the field as he captured the
40 lap headliner to defeat Rod Phipps, Josh Timmerman, Katie Jackson and Jerry
Faucett in that order. Timmerman took the heat with Poore fast qualifier at
13.806 seconds.
Supertruck point champion, Joe Beaver, climbed into
his daughters Street Stock and sailed to victory in the feature defeating Rob
Allman, Brian Hopkins, Jeff Perry, and Danny Acrey II to round out the top five.
Acrey won the prelim event with Beaver fast timer at 13.998 seconds.
In the Immediadent Figure 8’s Jeff Swinford led flag to flag with several close
cross over encounters. Chasing Jeff to the checker were Ronnie Rose, Rob Allman,
PJ Swallows, and Jason Pitts. Shawn Cullen took the heat.
In Newco Metals Legend action Alex Arelano made the race winning pass on Mark
Dietzen on lap 6 to capture the main event defeating John Robbins, Tommy Jones,
Josh Poore, and Andy Jones in that order. Arelano also won the prelim with John
Robbins fast qualifier at 14.237 seconds.
Saturday’s Thundercar feature saw Elliott Swallows Jr. lead the first 11 laps
before being black flagged for over his time. Ronnie Rose took control and went
on to victory over Frankie Oakes, Donnie Mandrell, Shantell Banks and Jason
Pitts to round out the top five. Sunday’s main event saw Rob Allman lead flag to
flag to defeat Ronnie Rose, Donnie Mandrell, Chris Jennings, and Rob Phipps to
round out the top five. Shawn Cullen was fast qualifier at 15.119 seconds.
Craig Haack hacked the competition for the second week in a row in the USAC Ford
Focus Midgets defeating Steven Matthews, Andy Nock, Stephanie Mockler, and Tyler
Cottongim in that order. Matthews and Mockler were heat winners with Jordan
Pennington fast timer at 12.474 seconds. Kyle Hamilton was crowned the 2008
Point Champion.
USAC Kenyon Midgets saw an exciting feature with Taylor Ferns capturing her
first feature win while second place finisher Caleb Armstrong brought home the
2008 point championship. Rounding out the top five were Dalton Armstrong, Jeff
Wimmenauer and Drew Charlson. Caleb Armstrong and Charlson were heat winners
while Wimmenauer was fast qualifier at 12.693 seconds.
Geoff Gerline had a clean sweep weekend in the Mini Cups winning both features.
Trailing in Saturday’s feature were Tim Phillips, Joey Greening, Maurice Randall
and Freeman Hochstetler. Following Gerline in Sunday’s feature were Phillips,
Randall, Hochstetler and Greg Gerline. Phillips was fast timer at 15.319
seconds.
In Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive racing action Nick Warner was Mr. Domination
capturing both oval feature events. Following Warner on Saturday were Ron
Phipps, Jeff Thinnes, Johnny Greer Jr. and Andy Keller in that order. Chasing
Warner on Sunday were Andy Keller, Ron Phipps, Thinnes and Elliott McKinney.
Warner also dominated both Figure 8 races. Following Warner on Saturday were
Andy Keller, Elliot McKinney, Johnny Greer Jr. and Dennis Farver Sr. to round
out the top five. On Sunday chasers were Farver, Mike Alley, McKinney, and Andy
Keller. Warner was also fast timer at 15.979 seconds.
Anderson Speedway returns to racing action on Saturday Night, October 11th with
the Night of Thrills presented by The Herald Bulletin. Featured events include
the Woods Landscaping Outlaw Figure 8’s, Pepsi School Bus Figure 8’s, Culvers
Trailer race, Cork Screw Race, Roll Over Contest, Quick Auto Front Wheel Drives
Oval and Demolition Derby.
As part of the event, four Figure 8 Legends of Duane Lee, Billy Simmons, Joe
McKinney, and Bruce Tunney will serve as honorary grand marshals as part of the
Outlaw Figure 8 portion of the event. A special autograph session is also
planned.
On Saturday, the spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the Thrills starting at 8
p.m. Admission is $12 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children five and
under get in free.
