Hantz Wins Rain
Shorted Anderson 300; Thompson Claims Street Stock Main
Scott Hantz patiently
worked his way through the field from sixth starting position to take the lead
at lap 138 of the Anderson 300 presented by Great Deals Magazine. This proved
to be the wining move of the race as the field pitted for a mandatory stop on
lap 150 and never restarted as rain moved in and ended racing the night of
racing at Anderson Speedway. Josh Bauer finished second, new track record
holder Jeff Lane finished third, early race leader Brian Rievley finished fourth
and Jason Dietsch continued a breakout season finished fifth.
"We were sort of saving the
car for the second half, I was thinking about not using up the tires and maybe
not changing all of the them at the break, but seeing how some of the other cars
were sliding around, we decided to get the front." Hantz said following the
race. "I credit my car owner’s mother-in-law with bringing us good luck this
week and I am dedicating this win to Dorothy."
Bret Mile, Jr. led the first
97 laps of the CRA Street Stock Anderson 100 when disaster struck while trying
to work his way around a pack of lapped cars with second place car Joe Beaver
seemingly tied to his bumper, Miles got caught in a spin and crash that forced
him and Beaver to the pits. Jacob Owens assumed the lead, but after the restart
he developed a flat tire and was forced to pit on a caution for a different car
spinning giving Jason Thompson the lead, and he held on for the win. Josh
Burton finished second, and Carl Muffley third, Rick Erwin fourth and Rob Allman
fifth.
"It was hard to get a rhythm
out there tonight." Thompson stated. "I am just glad to finally finish a
couple of races in a row, it has been tough to get that done, we always have a
good car, but have trouble getting to the end."
Miles recovered to finish
eighth, while Beaver was forced to retire and finished 16th. This gives the
2008 Championship points lead to Miles by just 2 points over Beaver. Setting up
a great battle for the championship with only 5 races to go this CRA Street
Stock season.
