Series on Friday, ThunderCar Enduro Set for Saturday
Anderson
Speedway returns to racing action this weekend with another big double header
weekend. On August 1, the WLBC / MAX Friday Night Summer will showcase UMRA
Midgets, ThunderCars and Quick Auto Front Wheel Drives in Amateur and Figure 8
action.
On Saturday, August 2, the ThunderCar Enduro will take place that could feature
up to 55 competitors in a 200 lap event. Also, the KOIL Legends, Street Stocks
and Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Pro division will also be in action at the
world’s fastest quarter-mile oval.
Heading into this weekend’s action, Terry Goff sits atop the UMRA Midget point
standings. Second in the standings is Tate Martz, who has scored the most
Midgets victories in USAC Midget history at Anderson Speedway. The remainder of
the top five in UMRA points includes Patrick Wolf, Bobby Walton and Ron Combs.
Lonny Burton scored second place honors in last weekend’s feature and continues
to hold first position in the ThunderCar point standings. The remainder of the
top five includes Sam Folsom, Tom Tacket, most recent winner Travis Burge and
Tim Nickerson.
In the Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Amateur division, Andy Keller holds a 22
point lead over Harry Lashure. Third is Jared Keller, just 27 markers from first
position. Kevin Harmon ranks fourth with Donnie Ellis lll rounding out the top
five.
Veteran Andy Keller leads the Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 standings
with Donnie Ellis Jr. and Harry Lashure also top performers during the season.
On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. with the racing program
beginning at 8. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children
five and under get in free.
The ThunderCar Enduro 200 will feature up to 55 cars in the starting field and
will award the winner with a payday of $3,000. Recent winners include Ronnie
Rose (March, 2007 & 2008), Rod Phipps (July, 2006), Eric Evans (July, 2007,
2005), Phi Jenkins (2004) and Carl Muffley (2002-2003, October, 2007).
Pendleton’s Jeff Perry ranks first in the Street Stock point standings with a 28
point lead over Ronnie Rose. Third is Rob Allman with Katie Jackson and Jake
McElfresh rounding out the top five.
The KOIL Legends return to Anderson Speedway on Saturday. Many of the
competitors that regularly compete in the Newco Metals Legends will take on the
traveling KOIL regulars. In the Newco Metals Legends, defending division
champion John Robbins holds a commanding advantage over Billy Smith and Mark
Dietzen.
Markleville’s Randy Hoppes has put together an impressive season in the Quick
Auto Front Wheel Drive Pro division. He holds a comfortable margin in the
standings with Donnie Ellis Jr., Gary Bragg Jr., Kevin Harmon and Peter Corsaro
other top season performers.
On Saturday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing program
beginning at 8. Admission is $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children
five and under get in free.
