Charlson, Keller
and Burge Bag Anderson Wins
Drew Charlson, Andy Keller and Travis
Burge were the big winners in the opening night of the MAX/WLBC Friday Night
Summer Series at Anderson Speedway as the series finally got off and running
after a two week weather delay.
The USAC Kenyon Midgets brought open wheel excitement to Friday night. Drew
Charlson showed the field the quick way around Anderson Speedway as he easily
out paced the field in the feature, leading from green to checker from his pole
position starting position. Caleb Armstrong was second with a charging Jeff
Wimmenauer taking third, Dalton Armstrong fourth and Fast Qualifier Mike Terry,
Jr in fifth. Grant Gallaway and Charlson were heat winners.
Travis Burge took the high road and passed leader Tim Nickerson late in the
Thundercar headliner to grab the victory defeating Lonny Burton, Nickerson, PJ
Swallows and Sam Folsom in that order. Tony Grissom and Rodney Milliner took
prelim honors with Burton the fast timer.
Jeff Saxon looked like a sure winner in the Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Amateur
main as he lead from the get go until he was passing a slower car on the outside
of turn three coming for the white flag. A tangle occurred with Saxon the lapped
car and Donnie Ellis, III. Saxon was eliminated vaulting Andy Keller to the
lead. Keller went on to the victory over Kevin Harmon, John Ford, Harry LaShure
and Jared Keller. Jeff Smith and Ryan O'Bryant took heat wins with David Carr
the fast timer.
Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Figure 8's thrilled the fans with an awesome,
action filled feature! First time racer Arthor Irwin and Dennis Farver Sr met in
the intersection with a hard crash. Both drivers were ok, but we can't say the
same for the cars! An awesome four car battle for the lead developed between
Travis Burge, Donnie Ellis, Jr; Andy Keller and Tony Torres with Burge taking
the lead from Torres on lap 12 to go on to his second win of the night. Trailers
were Andy Keller, Ellis, Torres and Greg Caldwell.
