Series Kicks Off Friday, CRA Street Stocks on Saturday, CRA Late Models on
Father's Day

Speedway has a huge weekend of racing action planned for the World’s Fastest
Quarter-Mile Oval. The first of three consecutive events starts with the debut
of the WLBC / MAX Friday Night Summer Series on June 13. The racing lineup
includes the KOIL Legends, ThunderCars, Mini Cups, Thunder Roadsters along with
Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Oval and Figure 8’s.
The KOIL Legends return with many of the regular drivers of the Newco Metals
Legends expected. John Robbins continues to hold the first position in the
Legends point standings with a 47 point lead on Mark Dietzen. Veteran Billy
Smith ranks third with Clark Dietzen and last week’s winner David Moyes lll
completing the top five.
Lonnie Burton sits atop the ThunderCar point standings after two events. Sam
Folsom ranks in second spot, just 15 markers from the top spot. Third in the
standings is last week’s winner Travis Burge with Dennis Farver Sr. and Tom
Tacket rounding out the top five.
The Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Oval division will compete in their first event
of the 2008 racing season. In the Figure 8 division, Andy Keller holds a 25
point lead over Harry LaShure with Donnie Ellis Jr., Jared Keller and Ronnie
Phipps filling out the top five.
On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5:30 p.m. with the racing program
beginning at 8. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children
five and under get in free.
On Saturday, the CRA Street Stocks will be showcased in a 200-lap event. The Ed
Martin Chevrolet SuperTrucks and Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Pro division will
also be featured in the racing program.
The CRA Street Stocks have had four events at Anderson Speedway since the 2006
season. In 2006 Rich Boyer won the season opening 250 lap event and the mid
season 150 lap event. In 2007 Bret Miles Jr. won a 75 lap event while Calvin
Parham took the victory in the Bud Light 150 helping car owner Steve Davis
capture the 2007 series Owners Championship.
Two time and defending CRA Street Stock Drivers Champion Joe Beaver comes into
this weekend’s event with a narrow one point lead in the season standings over
teenager Winston Wood. The veteran driver won the series 100 lap event earlier
this season at Winchester Speedway.
Brian Hopkins is currently third in series points, only five behind Beaver.
Larry Matillo is fourth, only one point behind Hopkins. Bret Miles Jr. rounds
out the top five and is only 10 points out of first place, making it a very
tight points battle so far in 2008.
Joe Beaver continues to hold the first position in Ed Martin Chevrolet
SuperTruck point standings with a 31 point lead over Josh Poore, who tops the
division with feature victories. Third is Rod Phipps with Jerry Faucett and Mark
Livesay filling out the top five.
In the Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Pro division, Randy Hoppes leads Gary Bragg
Jr. by 29 points. Third is Trevor Abbott with Michael Phipps and Jack Leisure
completing the top five.
On Saturday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing program
beginning at 8. Admission is $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children
five and under get in free.
On Sunday, the CRA Super Series Late Models return as part of the Ivy Tech Night
at the Races in the Great Deals 125. The ImmediaDent Figure 8’s, ThunderCars and
Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Pro division will also be in action on Sunday
evening.
The CRA Super Series Late Models will make their 43rd appearance at Anderson
Speedway. Plymouth’s Brian Ross has scored eight career victories to lead the
series with 25 competitors scoring at least one win. Eventual champion Chris
Gaberhart and Rookie of the Year John Van Doorn earned race victories during the
2007 season at Anderson Speedway.
Three former series Champions head a list of talented drivers entered including
1997 Champion Kenny Tweedy and 1998 Champion Brian Rievley. Tweedy is second in
series all time wins at Anderson with four while Rievley has been to victory
lane once.
Two time series Champion, and current series points leader Scott Hantz has also
entered this weekend’s event, he has one series victory at Anderson Speedway.
Hantz started off the 2008 season with two consecutive series victories at
Winchester Speedway and at Baer Field Speedway.
2006 series Driver Champion Jeff Lane will also be in action this weekend. He
has two series victories at Anderson and got the win last weekend at Salem
Speedway. Lane currently ranks third in series points.
Other former Anderson winners entered include Rick Turner, John VanDoorn and
Bull Baker.
Other top series regulars entered for Sunday’s event include Jason Dietsch who
is second in series points, JR Roahrig, Terry Fisher Jr., Boris Jurkovic, Jason
Shively, Sean Matthuis, Rich Segvich and part-time series competitor Mike Kugler.
Zach Taylor leads a very impressive rookie class entered for Sunday’s event.
Taylor is the current leader in the K & N Filters Rookie Of The Year points and
has been the K & N Filters Rookie Of The Race Award winner for all three series
events this season.
Indiana native Aaron Pierce is currently second in Rookie points and 10th in
overall series points. Pierce is known more for his open wheel racing in the
Anderson area including two runner-up finishes in the Pay Less Little 500 Sprint
Car event held each May at Anderson.
In the ImmediaDent Figure 8’s, Rob Allman leads Ranny Hinton by 38 markers.
Third is Mike Riddle Jr., with Ronnie Rose and last week’s winner Joe Hart Jr.
completing the top five in the division point standings.
On Sunday Night, spectator gates open at 3 p.m. with the racing program
beginning at 6. Admission is $13 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children
five and under get in free.
