Checkers for
Christman, Dager and Phipps
Saturday night brought some exciting racing to Anderson Speedway with Steve
Christman, Tony Dager, and Michael Phipps seeing checkered at the World’s
Fastest High Banked Quarter Mile.
Steve Christman was the class of the field on his way to winning the ARCA
Lincoln Welder Trucks 100 lap feature. Christman led the whole way with Rob
Jones racing him close for most of the race, but Jones got loose with three laps
to go. Jones would come home 3rd, Paul Hahn grabbed 2nd, Robbin Slaughter was
fourth and defending series champ Bill Withers rounded out the top 5.
Tony Dager won the CRA Sportsman Series 75 lap event. Dager worked his way to
the front in the early going, taking the lead on lap 37. Spins by both Bill
Huston and Eric Barcus brought contenders Neal Richardson and John Marshall back
to his bumper, but Dager pulled away at the end. Lap 64 saw some action as
racing finally resumed after the fourth restart, thanks to spins from Charlie
Hanna, Barcus, Bob Kissinger, and Gabe Cerny. Richardson came in 2nd, Nick Lay
was 3rd, Marshall took 4th, and Rick Rinehart finished 5th.
The Quick Auto Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s put on a great race as Michael
Phipps, the only car who finished on the lead lap, finished 1st. The crossover
was the place to watch as several times the leaders nearly were involved with
lapped traffic, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Robert Kelm grabbed
2nd, Andy Keller wound up 3rd, Peter Corsaro was 4th, and Harry Lashure took
5th.
Dennis Farver, Jr., involved in a crossover collision earlier in the year, raced
for the first time since the incident. He finished 10th.
Anderson Speedway returns to action next Saturday Night for the “Night of
Thrills” presented by the Herald Bulletin. The Newco Metals Legends will be on
the track, along with the School Bus Figure 8’s, the Cork Screw Race, the Roll
Over Contest and much more.
