Reschedules New Year's Day Race to Next Saturday
Anderson Speedway officials have
rescheduled the Bounce City New Year’s Day Bash originally scheduled for this
Tuesday, January 1st, to next Saturday, January 5th. Although the annual event
is typically held in most any weather conditions, the forecasted low
temperatures and frigid wind chills could produce unbearable conditions, even
for the most hardy race fans and competitors.
“Although we have held this event in snowy and cold conditions in the past, the
predicted single digit wind chills could create potentially hazardous conditions
for our fans and equipment” said Speedway President, Rick Dawson. “The forecasts
for next weekend call for dry and above average temperatures in the mid to upper
40’s and I feel its best, at least this year, we wait a couple of extra days to
have our race”
In the 10 year history of the event, there has only been one that was cancelled
due to over a foot of snow making it impossible to park rigs in the pits. Races
have been held with snow on the track and cold temperatures, however absent of
frigid wind chills. The forecasted temperatures and wind chills will make it
difficult on the cars and safety issues with fire extinguishers could be a
factor.
The event will proceed this Saturday at the same scheduled times. The pit gates
will open at 10:30 for competitors with the fan gates opening at 11:00. Racing
will begin at 1:00. Nearly 100 cars in several divisions annually compete for
the prestigious first trophies of the New Year and the same is expected for
Saturday.
“It is somewhat disappointing to me that we can’t race on the 1st day of the New
Year in 2008, however, I believe this is the right move for all of our fans and
competitors” said Dawson. “I can be patient for a couple of more days if it
means warmer weather. I will look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday”
