Local Racing Star
Dakoda Armstrong Dominates Midget Classic
Local
driving talent, Dakoda Armstrong dominated the field and brought home the trophy
for winning the Midget feature at the 2007 Mopar Sprint and Midget Classic
presented by DHL at Orlando Speedworld Saturday Night. Armstrong used his
outside pole position to take the lead on the second lap and never looked back
as he had nearly a straightaway lead on the second place finisher at the
checkered flag. Competing in both a Sprint and Midget car in this annual event,
Armstrong finished in 8th place in the 40 lap Sprint car race which preceded the
40 Lap Midget feature.
Armstrong was strong in all practice
sessions and was fifth fast qualifier for the Midget and 9th fastest for the
Sprint feature. The 6 car inversion for the Midget feature gave him prime real
estate to out gun the field. 24 cars took the green flag for the feature which
was slowed several times for caution and stopped for a red flag when one car hit
the fencing in turn three initiating repairs to the safety fence. The driver was
not seriously injured.
The 2007 Mopar Sprint and Midget
Classic is an annual event held in conjunction with the Performance Racing
Industry Trade Show held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando,
Florida. The PRI Trade Show is the largest Racing Industry trade show in the
country attracting thousands of manufacturers, racers and promoters from all
over the world. The races at Orlando Speedworld were taped for broadcast on the
Outdoor Channel at a later date.
Dakota Armstrong, a 16 year old
Middletown native, made his mark at Anderson Speedway in 2007 by being the
youngest driver to ever lead the prestigious Pay Less Little 500. He is the 2004
USAC Kenyon Midget Series Champion and is considered one of the fastest rising
stars in racing.
