Warner Earns Two Championships; Robbins and Wright Also Earn 2007 Titles

Anderson Speedway returned to racing action on Friday, September 28 with the Season Championships for the WLBC / MAX Summer Series featuring Newco Metals Legends, ImmediaDent ThunderCars along with Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 action.

Ohio’s Bryan Nuckles recorded his second feature victory in the Newco Metals Legends with Frankton’s John Robbins winning the season championship. The 30-lap event began with Nuckles getting the jump on Rodney Smith. The remainder of the race, Smith tried to move into position to grab the victory, but was forced to settle for second behind Nuckles. Third was Robbins with Billy Smith and James Edsall lll completing the top-five finishers.

Nuckles set quick time with a lap of 14.020 seconds with Edsall and Eric Black winning heat races.

Anderson’s Sam Folsom collected his seventh victory in the ImmediaDent ThunderCars with Nick Warner earning the championship for car owner Chris Portwood. In the early stages of the feature, Lonny Burton was in control of the race as he chased the championship. On the 15th circuit, his title hopes went away after making hard contact with the outside retaining wall. Burton finished 14th.

That handed the top spot to Sam Folsom, who then finished ahead of Warner by 2.521 seconds. Alexandria’s Alice Riall placed third with Tom Tacket and Jeff Eytchison completing the top five. Folsom set fast time with an official clocking of 15.012 with Darryl Rogers and Tim Nickerson scoring heat race victories.

Devin Mitchell dominated the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval feature, earning a flag-to-flag victory. Bryan Wright locked up the championship trophy prior to the final event. Mitchell darted into the first position at the start and then survived some early race cautions to finish 1.496 seconds ahead of Trevor Abbott. Third was Jerry Baker with Casey Davis and Russell Kirby filling out the top five. Mitchell posted the best qualifying time at 15.869 seconds with Brandon Mayhugh and Jon Smith collecting heat victories.

Nick Warner capped off his championship in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 season with winning his 15th feature. Warner got the jump on Andy Keller and then cruised to the victory. At the checkers, Jeff Wright crossed the finish line in second spot with Keller, Donnie Ellis Jr. and Dennis Farver Sr. rounding out the top five.
