USAC National
Midgets Return on Saturday
After a three-year absence, the USAC National Midgets make their return to
Anderson Speedway on Saturday, September 15. The racing program will also
include ImmediaDent Figure 8’s and Newco Metals Legends.
On Saturday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing program
beginning at 8. Admission is $15 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children
five and under get in free.
The
preliminary entry list for Saturday’s 30-lap USAC National Midget event contains
over 30 teams including two-time 2007 race winner Bryan Clauson and former
series champion Bobby East. Both drivers have competed part-time in the NASCAR
Busch Series this season.
Jerry Coons Jr., of Tucson, Ariz. sits atop the USAC National Midget standings
with a 105 point advantage over Darren Hagen and Brad Kuhn. Other top 10 drivers
in the current standings are Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Dave Darland, Kevin Swindell,
Levi Jones, Brady Bacon, Brad Loyet and Danny Stratton.
David Gough of Machesney Park, Ill., winner of last weekend’s USAC Regional
Midget race at Grundy County Speedway in Illinois, won USAC‘s last National
Midget race at Anderson, in 2004.
The ImmediaDent Figure 8’s will return to action on Saturday night. Veteran
racer Rod Phipps continues to build his lead in the Figure 8’s with a 170 point
lead over Ronnie Rose. Rookie Dustin Burge ranks in third position with four
top-five finishes and 12 top 10s. Ranny Hinton is fourth with three feature wins
and 12 top 10s. Herb Rose rounds out the top five.
The WLBC / MAX Friday Summer Series continues on Friday, September 14 featuring
Newco Metals Legends, ImmediaDent ThunderCars along with Chappy’s Rent to Own
Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 action.

Frankton’s John Robbins has constructed the largest points lead of the Newco
Metals Legends season with a 204 point margin over defending division champion
Rodney Smith. Third in the standings is Billy Smith, who has produced 15 top-10
finishes. Mark Dietzen is fourth with Eric Black rounding out the top five in
the point standings.
After crossing the finish line second in the feature last Friday, Lonny Burton
advanced to first position in the ImmediaDent ThunderCar point standings. He
leads Nick Warner by four points. Six-time feature winner Sam Folsom is third,
just 30 markers from first position. Alexandria’s Alice Riall ranks fourth with
Anderson’s Tim Nickerson in fifth spot.
In the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives, Bryan Wright continues to pace
the Oval standings with a 138 point advantage over Alan Wagner. Third in the
point standings is Kevin Harmon. In the Figure 8 points rundown, Nick Warner
holds a 255 point margin over Jeff Wright. Third in the standings is Donnie
Ellis Jr.
