Newco Metals Labor Day Weekend Set for Friday
and Saturday Night

Speedway returns to action this weekend with the Newco Metals Labor Day Weekend
set for Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1. On Friday Night, the WLBC /
MAX Friday Summer Series kicks off the weekend with Newco Metals Legends,
ThunderCars along with Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and
Figure 8 action.
Newco Metals will have a special promotion on Saturday night when three lucky
fans will win $200 each. A weekend special will also take place with Budweiser
and Bud Light selling for $2.
On Friday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing program
beginning at 8. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children
five and under get in free.
Heading into the biggest weekend of the season for Newco Metals Legends racing,
Frankton’s John Robbins sits atop the point standings with five feature
victories and a 79 point lead over defending division champion Rodney Smith.
Third in the season standings is Billy Smith, who has collected 13 top-10
finishes. Anderson’s Mark Dietzen and Eric Black complete the top five.
In ThunderCars, Anderson’s Nick Warner ranks first in the standings with a 48
point margin over Lonny Burton. Third is Sam Folsom, who has produced a division
best six checkered flags. Alexandria’s Alice Riall and Anderson’s Tim Nickerson
complete the top five.
Bryan Wright sits atop the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Oval standings
after recording 11 top-five finishes and 16 top 10s. Allen Wagner is second with
Kevin Harmon in third position. Nick Warner paces the Figure 8 division with 13
feature victories. Jeff Wright and Tim Tharp round out the top three in the
standings.
On Saturday, September 1, the Newco Metals Labor Day Weekend wraps up with the
Newco Metals Legends showcased in the Grant Fritz / Greg Dietzen Memorial
presented by Last Chance Wrecker. The racing program also includes Ed Martin
Auto Group SuperTrucks and Figure 8’s.
On Saturday Night, spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing program
beginning at 8. Admission is $10 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children
five and under get in free.
In the Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks, the entry owned by the late Bob Lemen
and now driven by Bret Miles Jr. holds the first position with three points
events remaining. Second-year driver Brandon Phillips is second, 78 markers
behind the division leader. Josh Poore is third with Brian Lemmer and Scott
Brooks completing the top five.
Rod Phipps has constructed a 130-point lead over Ronnie Rose in the Figure 8’s.
Phipps has posted three feature victories this season including the National
Crown in July. Rose has collected one win and a division best 13 top-five
finishes. Third is rookie Dustin Burge with Ranny Hinton and Herb Rose filling
out the top five.
