Broyles Ends SuperTruck Winless Streak; Owens and Riddle Also Return to Winner's Circle

Anderson Speedway returned to racing action on Saturday, August 18 with the conclusion of the Lampco Federal Credit Union Night at the Races featuring Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks, Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stocks and Figure 8’s.

New Castle's Tony Broyles earned his initial Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTruck season victory after fending off several challenges from Brandon Phillips. The 40-lap feature started with Michigan's John Wicks pacing the opening circuit. Scott Brooks took command of the field on the second lap with Broyles getting around Brooks for the top spot on the fourth lap. As Broyles was showing the way, Phillips began advancing from his ninth starting position to make a challenge for the race victory.

Phillips climbed to third position on lap eight and moved into the runner-up position at the halfway mark. During the second half of the event, Phillips made several attempts to get around Broyles and then two even made contact, but Broyles was able to stay out front and grab the victory. Phillips finished 0.470 seconds behind the winner. Ronnie Rose was third with Scott Brooks in fourth position. Bret Miles Jr., who drove the Bob Lemen owned machine, rounded out the top-five finishers.

In qualifying, Phillips was the top qualifier at 13.934 seconds with Broyles and Brian Lemmer wining heat races.

Anderson's Jake Owens collected his fifth season victory in the Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stocks. The current point leader grabbed the lead from his front-row starting position and led all 30 laps in the main event. It was far from an easy victory as Owens received constant pressure from Willy DeHart. Several late race cautions gave DeHart some final opportunity to take away the victory. At the finish, Owens and DeHart were chased by Rich Boyer, Jeff Perry and Rob Allman. In preliminary action, Owens and Brent Busby were heat race winners. Perry was the top qualifier at 14.234 seconds.

Mike Riddle Jr. scored a flag-to-flag victory in the Figure 8's, turning in a near flawless performance. The former division champion got the jump on Herb Rose at the drop of the green flag and cruised to his fourth victory of the season.

While Riddle patiently worked through the cross over traffic with a sizeable advantage over his closest chasers, current point leader Rod Phipps advanced from his mid pack starting position to finish in the runner-up position. Herb Rose grabbed third-place honors with Ronnie Phipps in fourth position. Chris Bair crossed the finish line in fifth position, but was disqualified after failing post-race technical inspection. That advanced Michael Lewis to a career best fifth-place finish.

For the second consecutive week, Rod Phipps dominated the Oval heat race for the Figure 8's, finishing over four seconds ahead of Ronnie Phipps with Ronnie Phipps in third position.

Anderson Speedway returns to action on Friday, August 24, the WLBC/MAX Friday Night Summer Series featuring UMRA Midgets, ThunderCars, and Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in oval and figure 8 racing.
