Warner, Cottongim, Rogers and Mitchell Score Friday Night Victories

Anderson Speedway returned to action on July 20th with the MAX/WLBC Friday Night Summer Series featuring Kenyon Midgets, ThunderCars and Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 racing.

Nick Warner took home the checkered in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s to score his eleventh win of the season. A good battle for third place developed early in the race with the cars of Keith Morris, Andy Keller, and Bryce Hall. They were 3-wide going into the corner and maintained that way through the cross over. Morris was able to get the spot at the line. Warner held off a challenging drive by Jeff Wright and was able to lead all 10 laps of the race. Wright was second at the checkered and Morris was third. Keller and Hall rounded out the top five.

The Kenyon Midgets were back in action at Anderson Speedway. Megan Wood was able to get the lead at the green. Wood had her hands full trying to hold off Tyler Cottongim, who was right on her tail for the first part of the race. On lap 14, Cottongim was able to get around Wood, who fell quickly back to the seventh spot before the next lap. By the end of the race, Cottongim had a 10-car length lead on the rest of the field and was able to take home the win. Blake Fitzpatrick scored a second place finish. Caleb Armstrong, Ryan Miller, and Jeff Wimmenauer finished out the top five.

In preliminary action, Kyle Hamilton and Wimmenauer won the two heat races. Blake Fitzpatrick was the top qualifier with a time of 12.603 seconds.

In ThunderCar action, Darryl Rogers spun before scoring lap 1 of the race. However, that didn’t hurt Rogers’ chances because the field got a complete restart and Rogers took the lead at the green. By lap 7, Rogers had a 7-car length lead on the field, but that didn’t last long because Nick Warner caught up with Rogers on lap 14. Rogers was able to hold off a hard drive by Warner to score his first win of the season. Warner finished second and Tim Dick was third. Dennis Farver, Sr. and Tim Nickerson finished fourth and fifth.

In the ThunderCar heat races, Johnathon Pitts won the first heat with Tim Dick winning the second one. Sam Folsom had the fastest qualifying time with 15.057 seconds.

Anderson’s Devin Mitchell was able to get his first win of the season in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Ovals. Mitchell got the lead at the green with him and the second place car of Hannah Lundy driving to a big lead on the rest of the field. Mitchell was able to hold off Lundy to lead all 15 laps of the feature en route to the victory. Lundy finished second. Bryan Wright, David Baker, and Allen Wagner rounded out the top five.

Lundy and Lenny Thompson won the two heats races. Mitchell was the top qualifier with a time of 16.195 seconds.
