Anderson,
IN (July 7, 2007) The O’Reilly USA Modifieds made their season debut on the
world’s fastest quarter-mile Saturday night featuring the Ed Martin Auto Group
50. The Ed Martin SuperTrucks, Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stocks and
Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 cars also were featured on the
program.
Four-time national modified champion, Rodney Scott, scored the win in the Ed
Martin Auto Group 50. Scott was able to grab the lead on the first lap and lead
all fifty laps of the O’Reilly USA Modifieds’ feature. By lap 30 of the race,
Scott had a lead of almost a straightaway on the rest of the field. Scott
Tomasik took home second place, Tony Dager finished third, with Jeff Weston and
Mike Hadley rounding out the top five in the feature which was nearly caution
free as the yellow flag was only thrown once for a minor incident.
In
preliminary action, Scott won the 6-lap dash, while Tomasik was the fastest
qualifier with a time of 12.888 seconds.
In the Ed
Martin SuperTrucks 40-lap feature,
Anderson’s Ronnie Rose scored the victory by leading all 40 laps of
the race. A good battle for second was on going throughout the race between the
trucks of Josh Timmerman, Brian Lemmer, and Brandon Phillips. On lap 28, the
3-way battle ended when Timmerman spun. Phillips was able to score the second
place finish and Lemmer was third. Josh Poore and Bob Lemen finished out the top
five positions.
Rose and
Larry Greene won the two heat races. Brandon Phillips was the top qualifier
with a time of 14.012 seconds.
The 30-lap
Lampco Federal Credit Union Street Stocks feature was action-packed. The race
began with side-by-side racing among the 17-car field. Johnny Davis took the
lead at the green, but contact was made with Jake McElfresh which caused
Davis to spin. Elwood’s Bruce McFall was then able to grab
the lead and score his first victory of the season with pressure from several
cars. Jeff Perry held off Joe Beaver to finish second. Beaver was third, with
Willy DeHart and Randy Hoppes finishing fourth and fifth.
McElfresh
won the first heat, and Ronnie Phipps won the second. Beaver was the fastest
qualifier with a time of 14.357 seconds.
Nick Warner, of Anderson,
won his eleventh race in the Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s.
The race began with Andy Keller leading for the first 12 circuits of the 15 lap
race. Warner got the lead when Keller’s car went through the infield grass.
Keller was able to finish second, with Ronnie Phipps, Randy Hoppes, and David
Baker rounding out the top five.
