Morris, Fitzpatrick, Folsom and
Harmon Score Friday Night Victories
By Cassie Marcum
Anderson Speedway returned to action on June 8, with the MAX/WLBC Friday Night
Summer Series featuring Kenyon Midgets, ThunderCars along with Chappy’s Rent to
Own Front Wheel Drives in Oval and Figure 8 racing.
Keith Morris of Mt. Summit won his first race of the season in the Chappy’s Rent
to Own Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s. The 10-lap event began with Travis Burge
leading the pack for the first eight circuits. Then, Morris was able to get by
Burge and take the win. Nick Warner placed third with Jeff Wright and Dennis
Farver, Sr. rounding out the top five. They were the only five cars on the lead
lap.
The Kenyon Midgets were back at Anderson Speedway in an action-packed 30-lap
event. Blake Fitzpatrick was able to take the lead from Tyler Cottongim on the
first lap and was able to hold the field off to take the win. Jeff Wimmenauer
held the second-place position for twenty-five laps, but then on lap 26
Cottongim fought back and was able to go home with a second place finish. Cale
Conley of Vienna, West Virginia scored a third place finish with Drew Charlson
and Ryan Miller finishing out the top five..
In preliminary action, Kyle Hamilton and Ryan Miller collected heat race
victories. Crawfordsville’s Jacob Wilson posted the top qualifying time with a
lap of 12.810 seconds.
In the ThunderCars action, Johnathon Pitts got out front early to lead a few
laps, but he had to fend off rookie Sam Folsom. Then, on lap 4, Folsom took the
lead and never looked back, at times his lead was a few car lengths over second
place finisher Johnathon Pitts. Folsom led the rest of the 20-lap feature and
took home the win once again. On the last lap of the race Lonny Burton and
Robbie Wyman wrecked and spun after the duo had been battling for a few laps.
Nick Warner finished in the third position along with Tim Dick and Alice Riall
taking home the fourth and fifth positions.
In the heat races, Alexandria’s Alice Riall won the first heat with Jeff
Eytchison claiming the second event. Folsom claimed the fastest lap with a fast
time of 14.966 seconds.
Kevin Harmon’s bad luck from last week was gone on Friday night, Harmon took
home the win once again. The win makes it Harmon’s fifth of the season in the
Chappy’s Rent to Own Front Wheel Drive Ovals. Harmon took the lead on the second
lap from Ryan O’Bryant and maintained in that position and came to the checkered
with what seemed like a five-car-length lead over second-place finisher Allen
Wagner of Chesterfield. Hannah Lundy finished in the third spot, with Chuck
Gossett, of Anderson, and Casey Davis finishing out the top five.
Tim Tharp and Tom Crum won the two heats races, while Harmon was able to take
home another top qualifying time at 16.217 seconds.
