Bear Wins PGG 100; Green, Dugger Earns Feature Victories

By Ken de la Bastide

Quinton Bear used contact with leader Jason Atkinson to take the lead on lap 89 to win the PGG 100 presented by Thompson Builders at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, September 13.

Bear used the bumper on Atkinson, who led from the start, to grab the lead but everything changed on lap 96 when the caution flag waved for what was the final time.

Atkinson came to a stop during the caution, which moved Jeff Marcum and Ronnie Rose into the second and third spots. It was the second time in two weeks that Atkinson’s car slowed suddenly late in a race.

Bear was able to pull away from Marcum and Rose to record his first apparent CRA win after being disqualified twice this year at Winchester and Angola speedways.

Greg VanAlst finished fourth followed by Kent Baledge.

VanAlst extended his point lead in the CRA Vore’s Welding Late Model Sportsman over Jack Dossey III, who finished sixth after spinning with 12 laps remaining while battling for third.

The race was slowed 14 times by the caution flag.

For the first time in his racing career Chris Green scored a Winged Outlaw Figure-8 Series victory at Anderson Speedway.

Green led all 50 laps chased by series point leader Michael Hadley Jr. for most of the night.

Jacob Garrigus grabbed the second spot from Hadley on lap 41, but as he want up to challenge for the win lost control coming off the second corner on lap 42.

Garrigus spun back across the track and collected Fred Baer, who had been running fourth.

Following Green and Hadley to the checkers was Ben Tunney, Garrigus, who’s cruise made quick repairs during the caution period, and Mike Riddle Jr.

Doug Dugger used the high groove to pass Brad Kendle on lap eight down the back straight and went on to record his second consecutive win in Thunder Roadster action.

The Season Championships presented by Intersect will take place at Anderson Speedway on Saturday, September 20. Featured divisions include McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models, Street Stocks and Thunder Roadsters.
